Thai Plastwood Co., Ltd., is marking its 36th anniversary with an expansion into the main residential roofing market, unveiling its latest innovation, the “PR-9 Mountain Lock” vinyl roofing system, at Architect Expo 2026 under "Phukao" brand. The launch represents a strategic move to reframe the role of vinyl roofing from a solution primarily used for home extension to a feasible main roof option for modern homes. This initiative reflects the company’s strategy to capture growth in the expanding self-built and modern home segments, while elevating roofing material standards in design, function and living performance.
Dr. Chatmaporn Tokaranyaset, Managing Director of Thai Plastwood Co., Ltd., the pioneer of "Plastwood" (uPVC Panel) manufacturing in Thailand under the “Phukao” brand, said the company is accelerating its construction materials business as it marks 36th anniversary. Leveraging its expertise in uPVC materials, Thai Plastwood continues to expand its product portfolio across a full range of applications, particularly vinyl roofing. Phukao is the groundbreaker for vinyl roofing which has traditionally been used for home extensions such as awnings and garages. Most recently, the company introduced its latest innovation, the “PR-9 Mountain Lock,” at Architect Expo 2026 to elevate vinyl roofing into a viable main roofing solution for modern homes. The brand also presented its booth concept, ‘Mountain of Life’ reflecting its identity and commitment to sustainability while addressing rising consumer demand for improved living quality.
Amid ongoing shifts in the housing market, vinyl roofing continues to be perceived primarily as a material for renovation. Meanwhile, demand for self-built and modern-style homes continues to grow. Despite an overall slowdown in the real estate market, the mid- to upper-end low-rise housing segment is expected to expand, driving increased demand for construction materials that meet expectations in design, function, and better living performance. Growth is further supported by climate-related factors and home renovation trends. In response, Phukao is implementing a strategic shift to reposition vinyl roofing as a main roofing, reinforcing its position as the true expert in vinyl roofing.
‘This year marks a significant milestone for Phukao as we move from being a leader in vinyl roofing for home extensions to becoming a key option for main residential roofing. We visualize the market transition phase, where consumers are placing greater emphasis on living quality, particularly thermal comfort, noise reduction, and durability against weather conditions. Vinyl roofing, which inherently provides insulation, is well-positioned to grow in this new role, especially in the self-built and modern home segments. We have therefore developed innovations under the concept ‘Design That Listens’ to address the real needs of both homeowners and contractors,’ Dr. Chatmaporn said.
A key highlight is the launch of the “PR-9 Mountain Lock,” a new vinyl roofing innovation that combines two systems in one, Interlock and Ridge capping systems, effectively reducing the risk of leakage at joint areas. The product is also designed with an extra-wide panel of up to 50 centimeters, the widest in the market, helping reduce the number of joints and accelerate installation.
In addition, PR-9 is designed to meet modern installation needs, enabling re-roofing projects to be completed within one day, depending on project size. This allows homeowners to move in sooner while significantly improving efficiency for contractors.
This year, Phukao is targeting mid- to high-end homeowners, particularly those building their own homes or modern-style residences, as well as architects, contractors, and real estate developers seeking construction materials that deliver both design and performance, especially in terms of thermal comfort, noise reduction, and weather resistance.
The company is confident that the ‘PR-9 Mountain Lock’ will play a key role in elevating vinyl roofing standards in Thailand and serve as a turning point in establishing vinyl roofing as a primary roofing option for modern homes.
